A transfer battle seems to have broken out between RB Leipzig and Newcastle United for Christopher Nkunku. Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany reported this afternoon that RB Leipzig have agreed a deal for Nkunku with Milan, on the basis of a loan with option to buy. Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa and Roma were mentioned as potential landing spots, but Newcastle have been in the running his signature too. Newcastle’s Nkunku hopes still alive During a video update on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano took stock of the future of Nkunku, confirming that there appears to be a duel that has emerged. “There is a basic understanding between Leipzig and Nkunku. It’s his absolute favorite choice, as reported. Christopher Nkunku wants to return to Leipzig, and he has given Leipzig priority,” he said (via MilanNews). “To say that the deal is completely done, we still have to wait for one step: for Milan to give Nkunku the okay to leave for medicals and signing. Some in Germany say that Nkunku has already had his medicals today, but I’m not aware of this. “The player’s agents say that the player hasn’t had any medicals, at least not until this morning. At the moment, what we know is that they’re still waiting for Milan’s okay for one reason: Milan had new contacts with Newcastle between last night and this morning. “The Magpies want to try to understand if there’s room to sign Nkunku, improving the loan offer with an initial option to buy. So Newcastle are offering more than Leipzig. “Now it’s clearly up to Milan to understand if there’s a small margin to give Nkunku the chance to change his mind, but Newcastle haven’t yet given up.”
