Liverpool Premier League • England Liverpool confirm next stage of Yankuba Minteh pursuit as Brighton accept transfer evolution Liverpool are reportedly mulling over a third bid for Brighton and Hove Albion star Yankuba Minteh, as talks continue between the two Premier League teams. Following Mohamed Salah’s exit at the end of last season, which ended a glittering nine-year stay at Anfield, Liverpool have made it a priority to sign another winger. Victor Munoz was snapped up from Osasuna for around £34million, in what was new boss Andoni Iraola‘s first signing, but the Reds want more. Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola has been a top target for quite some time now, although it remains to be seen if the French giants will stick to wanting more than £140m for his services. His PSG teammate, Ibrahim Mbaye, has also been linked with a move to Merseyside, but it seems a deal for former Newcastle United youngster Minteh is closer to completion. Brighton have knocked back two offers for the 22-year-old, the second of which is said to be in the region of £60m, with the Seagulls holding out for £70m. Such is their desperation to recruit the Gambian international, they are even willing to sign an injured player. Indeed, Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler said Minteh will be out for a significant period, with reports suggesting he could return in late October after having surgery on a right leg issue. Hurzeler replied, “We know in general, all the players who there are rumours about are important players, they’ve been part of the journey over the last two years. It’s normal that if a team is doing well, then there will be a big ask for players. That’s part of my job here, it’s part of our identity. “We can go through every individual player, we know how important they are but we know good achievements, big achievements, you create a lot of attention and therefore we have to wait now. The situation will evolve. I’m not here to complain, I’m here to find solutions.” Liverpool in talks again with Brighton over Minteh transfer Whether that evolution includes Minteh remains to be seen but according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are not giving up on the Gambian. Before Brighton hosted Aston Villa and Liverpool locked horns with Newcastle United later on Sunday, Jacobs said “fresh talks” been the two teams will continue despite being in action. And, the Reds are deciding whether or not to up their offer again. Iraola has repeatedly stressed that Liverpool need more signings, particularly after a pre-season where his team started strongly, before running out of puff as the game progressed. That led to them throwing away leads against Leeds United and Monaco, with questions being asked about their midfield in particular.
