Written by Midlothian View Editor, Phil Bowen Hibernian FC have announced the signing of Jacob Devaney from Manchester United on a season-long loan, with an option to make the move permanent. The 19-year-old midfielder has joined up with the Hibees in Edinburgh, with the move subject to international clearance. The Barnsley-born midfielder joined the Manchester United academy at the age of six and made his U18 debut aged just 15. He signed his first professional contract with the club in 2023 and was named Manchester United Youth Scholar of the Year in 2025, following impressive performances for the U18s and captaining the U21 side at the age of 18. He was also recently part of Michael Carrick’s 2026 pre-season Summer Tour, featuring against Wrexham in Helsinki before coming off the bench to score in a 5-0 victory over Rosenborg last month. A Republic of Ireland U21 international, Jacob already has experience of Scottish Premiership football, having made 18 appearances during a loan spell with St Mirren in the second half of the 2025/26 campaign. Upon Jacob’s arrival, Hibernian FC Head Coach David Gray commented: “We’re really pleased to bring Jacob to the Club. He already has experience of Scottish football and knows the demands of the Premiership, which will be important as he settles into the squad. “He’s a technically talented young international footballer who is keen to learn and develop, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the group. “To have him join before the end of the window is really positive, and we’ll look to get him settled in as quickly as possible.” Hibernian FC Sporting Director, Malky Mackay, added: “We’re delighted to welcome a player of Jacob’s calibre to Hibernian FC. “He’s a young player with an excellent background and, importantly, he already has experience of playing in the Scottish Premiership. “A lot of clubs were understandably interested in Jacob, so we’re delighted that he saw his future at Hibs.
