Mostert failed to finish Sunday’s race when his Supra was struck with a yet-to-be-identified engine problem. What makes the failure particularly troubling is that Mostert was running the new B-spec engine, which Walkinshaw had hoped would solve reliability issues seen across the Toyota fleet so far this season. The Walkinshaw crew will pull the engine out of the car tonight (Sunday) before sending it to the Supercars engine shop in Brisbane tomorrow, where a full investigation will take place. “We will do a complete forensic strip down of the engine tomorrow alongside Supercars,” Walkinshaw CEO Bruce Stewart told Speedcafe. “We won’t speculate on what it may be until that’s complete. “The message from us doesn’t change. We will continue to throw every resource possible at this to continue to improve the package. “We are a people driven team, it hurts everyone, but no one is giving up, we’re determined to solve it.” The engine will need to be back in Mostert’s car for Tuesday’s pre-enduro test, which will provide another important bank of miles for the new-spec Toyota V8s.
