Hull FC mounted an impressive comeback to defeat former head coach John Cartwright and his Catalans Dragons side with Jake Arthur kicking a late drop goal to win it for the Black and Whites. Down 26-14 with less than 20 minutes to on the clock, Hull FC scored twice before Jake Arthur kicked the game-winning drop goal to hand them a 27-26 victory, only their second win in ten games. Arthur’s nerves and execution were hailed by interim coach Andy Last when he spoke to Sky Sports, stating: “Jake’s been outstanding and to come up with a big moment like that shows what a composed player he is.” Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside, Last explained: “It was a great game and a game of two halves for us. “The desire and the grit and the toughness, at two scores down with 25 minutes of the game to go, to go and come back shows a lot of character. “Jake Arthur nailing that moment at the end is a brilliant moment for the club and a brilliant moment for the group.” He also explained the club’s early second-half lull, putting it down to his side feeling sorry for themselves after Davy Litten’s try was ruled out, with Catalans scoring twice after that before Hull FC mounted their comeback. Hull FC boss hits out at process after hip drop tackle There was no immediate injury concerns, though Last admitted that it was ‘too early to assess’, as there had been fears that James Bell may have suffered an injury late on. The forward was the victim of a hip drop-style tackle but the Black and Whites were unable to take him off on account of using all their subs, and the tackle not being ruled a penalty in the moment. Last said: “It was a disappointing one that for me. We’d used all of our subs and he gets a hip drop tackle [against him] that is put on report. “The normal process is if it’s foul play that you get a free interchange, so we would have been able to bring Belly off and put someone else on for free. “It got put on report but because there wasn’t a penalty, we didn’t get a free interchange so we had to keep him out there strapped up. There’s no common sense at times.” Bell will hopefully be back for next week’s game where Hull FC play their final home match of the season as Warrington Wolves visit the MKM Stadium.
