LAHORE: Pakistan team management is considering changes to the playing XI for the Lord’s Test after the national side suffered a crushing innings-and-103-run defeat against England in the first Test. According to sources, Pakistan’s batting and bowling performances in the opening Test failed to meet expectations, prompting the management to reconsider the team combination for the second Test. Among the proposals under consideration is giving wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan a rest. The biggest development for Pakistan is the potential return of captain Babar Azam. Babar missed the Leeds Test due to a right-hand injury, but the team management is hopeful that he will recover fully and be available for the second Test. If Babar returns, young batter Azaan Owais could make way for the experienced campaigner. Babar’s inclusion is expected to add experience and stability to Pakistan’s batting lineup. Meanwhile, the management is also considering playing two spinners for the Lord’s Test, keeping the conditions in mind. In the pace-bowling department, young fast bowler Ubaid Shah could be given an opportunity due to his pace. The second Test at Lord’s will be played from August 27 to 31. Pakistan currently trail the three-match series 0-1 after their defeat in the opening Test and will be under pressure to level the series in the second match.
