Abrar is a key member of Pakistan’s ODI and T20I team, and has been in excellent form as of late. In his most recent international assignment, which was a three-match ODI series against Australia, he took six wickets at an average of 16.16. After that, he represented Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred and claimed four wickets in eight games at an average of 52.75 and an economy rate of 10.12. Despite Abrar’s underwhelming campaign in The Hundred, Bopara highlighted the 27-year-old’s ability to excel on batting-friendly pitches as one of the qualities that makes him so impressive. “Abrar Ahmed is a very difficult bowler to pick. Abrar has played under pressure, he has played on very good batting pitches in Pakistan, and he has done really well,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X. Abrar was not selected for Pakistan’s recent two-Test series against the West Indies, which concluded as a 1-1 draw. He also didn’t make the cut for the ongoing three-Test series against England, where the men in green find themselves 1-0 down after losing the 1st Test in Leeds by an innings and 103 runs. The 2nd Test will begin on August 27 at Lord’s.
