Kirk Cousins, Maxx Crosby get into heated exchange at Raiders practice

Outside of his “you like that” moment in Washington, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins has never been viewed as a fiery guy.
However, Cousins showed he is capable of being that guy during a heated exchange with star edge rusher Maxx Crosby during training camp practice on Friday, Aug. 7.
According to Vincent Bonsignore of The California Post, Cousins grew frustrated with Crosby after the five-time Pro Bowler hit his throwing arm twice during the session.
After the second time, Cousins got into Crosby’s face, shoved him and had some words for the Raiders defender.

“Immediately after Crosby again made contact with Cousins’ throwing arm following a pass, the quarterback charged toward him, delivered a not-so-subtle shove to the chest and accompanied it with some choice words and a stern warning to knock it off,” Bonsignore wrote.
Kirk Cousins might only be keeping Fernando Mendoza’s seat warm.
But by squaring up against the toughest guy on the field Friday, he showed the young @Raiders QB exactly how to sit in it. My column: https://t.co/xUNgcjYa0R
Thankfully, things did not escalate beyond that, and the Raiders’ practice continued without incident.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with Cousins showing a little fire as long as it doesn’t lead to something bad, which did not happen here.
Training camp fights between teammates are the norm at this time of year, and this amounts to a very tame version.
Raiders react to Crosby-Cousins exchange
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak had no issue with the confrontation.
“That’s training camp. Those are two leaders of our team going at it. That is part of camp,” Kubiak said, per The Athletic’s Sam Warren.
Tight end Michael Mayer lauded his quarterback for getting in Crosby’s face.

“That’s our starting quarterback right now and you want him to defend your team. You want him to have some edge to him, which he does. He’s always had that, since the first day I met him when he came in here,” Mayer said.
It isn’t often you see a Raiders player stand up to Crosby, so Cousins definitely scored some points with his teammates on Friday.
Kirk Cousins’ 2026 outlook
Despite Las Vegas drafting Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, it’ll be Cousins starting for the Raiders come Week 1.
Earlier this offseason, Kubiak made it clear he prefers to sit a young quarterback in Year 1, and he is clearly sticking to that plan with Mendoza.
However, if Cousins struggles and things go south for the Raiders, it may not be long before we see Mendoza under center.
Maxx Crosby’s 2026 outlook
Crosby was nearly traded earlier this offseason before the Baltimore Ravens decided to back out of the deal because of a failed physical, or at least that is what the team said publicly.
Many believe the Ravens backed out of the deal because of buyer’s remorse after giving up two first-round picks.
Whatever the case, Crosby has recommitted to the Raiders, although it’s still possible he requests another trade at some point down the line if Las Vegas has another losing season.
