The Kansas City Chiefs are rolling in training camp, and the best news for them is that Patrick Mahomes is practicing. It was just last season that Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in his left knee, but he worked hard during recovery and has found his way back on the field sooner than some would've expected. Though he looks good in training camp so far, the real test for Mahomes will be in the preseason where he actually faces real competition. Head coach Andy Reid doesn't seem committal about putting Mahomes out there in the first preseason game, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he sat. “I mean, there's a pretty good chance where I don't play him,” Reid said. “[The] percentages are leading that way. I don't know if I'll play him in the second or third game. I don't know that. The percentages probably lean against not doing that.” Not only does it seem like Reid will play Mahomes in the first game, but there's a possibility he doesn't see action in any of them. It's understandable when looking at the nature of Mahomes' injury and how fast he came back, and the team is trying to be as cautious as ever with him. At the same time, they truly won't know how ready Mahomes is until they send him out on the field. As much as Reid may not want to play him in a preseason game yet, he still likes what he's seen from his quarterback in camp. “He's really doing everything that he normally does, and doing it well,” Reid said via ESPN. “We're just keeping an eye on him and letting the doctors guide us from there. As long as he's safe, that's what we're looking at. So right now, for what we're doing, he's safe to roll.”
