Yesterday, Jorge Martin mentioned being surprised to find himself leading the championship. The Spaniard is still trying to find his perfect form with Aprilia, but he can't complain after the first day of practice at Silverstone. His teammate Bezzecchi significantly made a difference, but Jorge finished with a 4th place that gives him hope for the rest of the British weekend. “I made a mental click and found confidence, I feel very good,” Martin explains. “There are always problems, areas where to improve, but I think I've made a step forward and I'm closer to the best than I was in the last races.” What did you think when you saw Bezzecchi's time? “Incredible! I already felt at the limit, I was under the track record, and when I saw his time, it impressed me a lot, especially given his conditions. I don't know why, but when we riders are physically limited, we manage to bring out something extra. Considering Marco’s condition, it’s incredible.” Did the break help you start on the right foot? “Vacation or not, the important thing is feeling good. I felt good, but the important thing is to work because I'm almost half a second from the first. I'm noticing a lot the fact that I didn’t race here last year, we have to work more than the others to adjust the power delivery, the electronics, and the engine braking. It’s only the first day, and we'll see if we can improve.” How? “By doing what I said, working a bit on the electronics and managing to be more consistent. I have more confidence, but I'm not yet as precise as I was in the past on the Ducati: in one lap I take one line and in another a different one. I'm struggling torepeat that.” Can you achieve it already this weekend? “I need more time on the bike. Today we tried quite a few things; it was a sort of test for some material. I believe that as the races go by, I will improve.” Not having raced at Silverstone last year, do you still have the reflexes of the Ducati? “If I try to do certain things, they don't work the same way. I have to try, even make mistakes, to see the reaction and sort it out.” What's the goal for the weekend? “To continue improving my base and my sensations. That's my goal.”
