A big man the New York Knicks likely have on their free-agent radar reportedly could soon be snapped up by conference rivals, the Miami Heat. We are about a month away from the opening of NBA training camps, and the Knicks surprisingly have a few roster spots still open. The starting lineup for the defending NBA champions is obviously set, but they could certainly add more depth to their bench. This summer, they did a good job of keeping their reserve unit strong by inking new deals with guards Jose Alvarado, Jordan Clarkson, and Landry Shamet. However, they took a big hit to their frontcourt when the talented backup center Mitchell Robinson signed a multi-year deal with division rival the Boston Celtics. To help fill that void, they did sign two-time All-Star Andre Drummond. However, while they hope youngsters like Mohamed Diawara and Pacome Dadiet can push for larger roles next season, New York could use more proven frontcourt depth. One player that is probably on the Knicks’ wishlist is New York native Nick Richards. Miami Heat showing ‘considerable interest’ in Nick Richards The six-year veteran is still available in free agency, and the team has shown interest in the 28-year-old in the past. However, according to a new rumor, he is getting “considerable interest” from a conference rival. “Veteran 6-11 center Nick Richards has emerged as a player of considerable interest to Miami, but Richards is considering several options, and it’s unclear if another team has offered him more guaranteed money,” Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Similar to the Knicks, Miami can’t offer big contracts. So, for Richards, it may simply come down to where he wants to play.
