Nottingham Forest fans taunted Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford with chants of ‘what a waste of money’, but he had the last laugh at the City Ground. Trafford made his debut for Leeds in the Premier League opener following his £45million summer move from Manchester City. And while the England goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory and made an important first-half save to keep an Igor Jesus header out, he endured more trouble with the ball at his feet. Forest fans were quick to jump on his back when Trafford, who went to the World Cup with England, aimlessly kicked the ball out of play from a goal-kick in the first half and then was complicit in Leeds giving a throw-in away when playing out from the back. His woes continued into the second half as he again kicked the ball straight out of play, with Forest fans quick to question his price tag. However, Trafford was the one laughing at the end as Anton Stach’s late free-kick gave Leeds the points, with the goalkeeper celebrating by sprinting to the halfway line to join in celebrations.
