The Seattle Seahawks are preparing to defend their Super Bowl title in 2026, and quarterback Sam Darnold believes rookie Jadarian Price could provide another dynamic weapon for their offense.
Darnold offered significant praise for Price following Friday's joint practice with the Tennessee Titans, highlighting the rookie's versatility as both a runner and receiver ahead of his first NFL season.
“He's a special player,” Darnold said, via Seahawks writers Ari Horton and John Boyle. “He's a really special player. He brings a different facet to the offense that only a guy like him can bring. Whether it's catching passes out of the backfield, catching screens, running in between the tackles, outside of the tackles, he can really do it all. And I know he's just going to continue to get better and learn.”
Price made his presence felt throughout Friday's practice, recording multiple receptions while Seattle's running backs consistently contributed in the passing game.
Velus Jones Jr. also recorded multiple catches, including a touchdown from quarterback Jalen Milroe. George Holani added a touchdown reception during a red-zone drill, getting open on a wheel route before making an over-the-shoulder catch on a well-placed throw from Darnold.
Sam Darnold impressed by Seahawks' versatile backfield
Darnold said Seattle's running backs have shown an ability to handle a variety of responsibilities throughout training camp, particularly as injuries have forced players to adjust their roles.
“They're doing a great job out of the backfield,” Darnold said. “Even when they're not out of the backfield, in the slot, being able to catch and do all the things we ask them to do. Obviously in camp, things happen, receivers go down, tight ends go down, fullbacks go down, and those running backs have been able to just step up in whatever position we ask them to play.”
Darnold added that the group's versatility has allowed Seattle to deploy its running backs from several different alignments.
“They've been very versatile all camp, and really, really good catching the ball out of the backfield or even in the slot or out wide.”
Price, 22, entered the NFL as the No. 32 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and has quickly drawn attention during his first training camp. His ability to contribute as a runner and receiver could give Seattle another option to move around the formation as the Seahawks prepare for their title defense.
The Seahawks will get another opportunity to evaluate Price and the rest of their roster when they face the Titans in preseason action Sunday at 5 p.m. PT on FOX.
