That has severely limited their ability to make moves and ultimately forced them to trade 23-year-old Peyton Watson. The Nuggets knew they would have to find a replacement for the young star after parting ways with Watson. Shortly after the trade, Denver turned its attention to veteran forward DeMar DeRozan. “The Nuggets are now showing interest in DeMar DeRozan as their replacement for Peyton Watson. DeRozan would join a Denver roster now in need of an impact wing," NBA reporter Evan Sidery wrote. Not long after trading Watson, the Nuggets made their next move official. Denver signed the 17-year veteran to a deal, immediately filling the void left in its wing rotation. “The Nuggets signed DeMar DeRozan to a one-year deal at the veteran’s minimum, per Shams Charania. DeRozan will now fill the void left behind by Peyton Watson in Denver’s wing rotation,” Sidery posted. The move allows the Nuggets’ offense to remain dangerous, as DeRozan is one of the league’s best players at creating his own shot. Nikola Jokic can also help generate open looks for him throughout games. Denver was able to beat out the Washington Wizards and Miami Heat for the six-time All-Star. “The Wizards shifted their intent to sign another veteran this offseason by showing some interest in DeMar DeRozan, pursuing the former All-Star swingman along with teams such as Miami and Denver," The Stein Line's Marc Stein wrote. While the Nuggets have been limited in what they can do this offseason, this was an excellent addition given their circumstances. DeRozan is not going to provide much on the defensive end, but he can still give Denver a significant boost offensively. DeRozan has made $305 million throughout his career and brings 17 years of NBA experience to Denver. The Nuggets are hoping to avoid another first-round exit this coming season, and adding DeRozan gives them another proven scorer who could make a significant impact as the season progresses.
