So, most of us know by now that Mister Jake Bobo’s injury seems severe. On top of that, Tory Horton has taken a step back in his recovery to full-time action on the field. In the meantime, our beloved Seattle Seahawks are going to have to make some adjustments to the roster, and possibly to the new Brian Fleury scheme. In the days ahead, we shall see how severe and urgent both injuries are to both players, and how deep down the depth chart the O will need to go to replace each players’ skill set. '25 Preseason QB Plan A: Trade away QB Geno Smith to the Raiders for a '25 third-round pick and sign FA QB Sam Darnold to become QB1. See it Plan A works out. '25 Preseason QB Plan B: Sign QB Drew Lock. He could back up Darnold, and if Darnold falters, Lock could become QB1. See if Plan B works out. '25 Preseason QB Plan C: In the '25 Draft, when the Seahawks were on the clock at pick 3.92, Plan C materialized. With '25 3.92, pick QB Jalen Milroe to see if either he could be coached up to become the team's QB1, QB2, or trade capital. Results of '25 Preseason QB Plans (A, B, and C). Plan A and Plan B worked perfectly. During the '25 season, Darnold continued to develop, and he led the team to a victory in the 2026 Super Bowl. Plan B is a work in progress. However, Milroe is not likely to ever displace Darnold as the team's QB1, and Milroe is not likely to displace Lock before the start of the regular season in 2027. Milroe becomes a FA in March 2029, and he will lose trade value for the Seahawks when he becomes a FA. The best time to trade Milroe will be before the start of the 2026 season or before the start of the 2027 season. Even if Milroe increases his trade value just before the start of the 2027 season, it may be more advantageous to the Seahawks for his trade to take place before the start of the 2026 season. First, the Seahawks would get trade value before the start of the '27 season. The 2027 NFL Draft is predicted to be one of the deepest drafts in recent years for talent. Second, another player on the '26 91-man Training Roster would make the '26 initial 53-man roster! The Seahawks want to win the 2027 Super Bowl, and keeping talented players who might play in the '26 season is important. Third, if Milroe is traded away before the start of the '26 season, then the team will no longer be distracted during the '26 season with the "Milroe Project" in a year where the fewer the distractions, the better. For Milroe, being traded to a team that fits his style of playing QB might help accelerate his development. If Milroe looks bad in the '27 Seahawks Training Camp, then his value might be less than it is before the start of the '26 season. HT #2: Trade away C Olu Watimi before the cut down to the initial '26 53-man roster must be filed with the NFL. Right now, the local sports analysts are saying that the Seahawks have four good Guards and possibly three of four (at least) decent Centers. Seahawks' current four good Guards are: G Grey Zabel G Anthony Bradford G/C Mason Richman G Christian Haynes Seahawks' current four (at least) decent Centers are: C Jalen Sundell (current starting C) C Olu Oluwatimi (current backup C) C/G Mason Richman (playing well in practice at G) C Federico Marangas (Int'l Player) (reportedly playing well at C in 2025) Only if a decent replacement for Oluwatimi at backup Center is on the team at present would I favor the trading away Oluwatimi before the '26 active roster must be filed. What the Seahawks would likely get by trading away Oluwatimi would be room on the '26 initial 53-man roster to keep a player on the 91-man Camp Roster from being exposed to being claimed by another team in the waiver-claim process and likely more '27 draft capital (a draft that is predicted to be rich with talent). Again, I'm not wild about this trade unless the team knows that it has someone at least close to taking Oluwatimi's place as the Backup Center. HT #3: Trade now for '26 Raiders' Edge Maxx Crosby. We know what the Raiders were willing to accept from the Ravens this year until the Ravens blew up that trade. A '26 first and a '27 first. Maybe the Seahawks could offer for Crosby a '27 first, QB Jalen Milroe, and a '28 third? The Raiders' top two QBs right now are QB Kirk Cousins, who just turned 38 years old, and Rookie Fernando Mendoza, a 22-year-old who is untested in the NFL. Other QBs on the '26 Raiders' team right now are UD Rookie QB Jacob Clark and QB Aidan O'Connell, a '23 4.135 pick out of Purdue who's in his final contract year with the Raiders. Perhaps HC Klint Kubiak put his blessing on the Seahawks acquisition of Milroe for the Seahawks in the '25 preseason and perhaps Kubiak still believes in the Milroe Project. Kubiak needs to keep his options open in the most important task for him with the Raiders - to find that franchise QB. HT #1, HT #2, and HT #3 (above) are just some ideas to kick around.
