Getafe have been dealt a significant setback ahead of the 2026/27 La Liga season after Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche was ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a serious knee injury, according to a report by Dario AS. The Nigeria international sustained the injury during the club's pre-season friendly against AS Monaco on Thursday. Uche was stretchered off following a reckless challenge from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa, who was shown a straight red card for the tackle. Initial assessments suggested the 23-year-old had suffered a severe contusion, but further medical examinations painted a far more worrying picture. An MRI scan confirmed that Uche sustained multiple tears to the ligaments and meniscus in his right knee. The midfielder will undergo surgery in the coming days before beginning a lengthy rehabilitation programme, effectively ending his season before it has even started. The injury comes as a huge disappointment for both the player and Getafe. Uche had returned to the Spanish club this summer after completing a loan spell at Crystal Palace and was hoping to establish himself as a key figure in José Bordalás' squad.
