The unlikely pairing of two of WWE’s most popular stars made for a crowd-pleasing performance at a live event Thursday in Fairfax, Virginia. In a video shared by vlogger Matt Kempke, Danhausen came face-to-face with his arch-enemy, The Miz. As the comedic demon pushed for a match against the former WWE Champ, Miz attacked him. After Miz stopped to taunt the crowd, Danhausen sat up like The Undertaker, and shouted, “You. Are. Cursed.” Next, the lights went out, and Oba Femi’s music hit. Miz did his best to keep the match from starting, but Danhausen rang the timekeeper’s bell. Then, “The Ruler” rang Miz’s bell with a series of running elbows in the corner, followed by a pizza toss and Fall From Grace for the win. Miz’s destruction and Oba’s win earned a big pop from the fans. Yet, the biggest reaction came when Danhausen crawled between Oba’s legs and mimicked the King of the Ring’s signature pose. The two then fist-bumped, which received another round of cheers. WWE called attention to the moment on social media, declaring, “On this day, OBAHAUSEN was born!” Since his debut at Elimination Chamber in February, Danhausen has been a regular on programming and house shows. That prompted some to argue he’s being overexposed. Before SummerSlam, Matt Hardy said on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast that WWE should scale back Danhausen’s appearances to preserve his appeal. “He’s been like a golden goose, and they’ve been taking every egg they can from him,” he noted while pointing out Danhausen’s frequent appearances on networks like ESPN. While he believes Danhausen represents the company in a fun way, he warned that too much exposure could eventually hurt his popularity. “You have to be careful not to overexpose him because people, if they get tired and they turn on him, then it’s a big loss,” Hardy said. For now, Danhausen remains over with WWE’s audience. Based on the reaction his segment with Oba received and WWE’s social media mention, it seems like a matter of when, not if, fans will see this duo on TV. One school of thought is that the focus should be maintaining the aura around their rising young superstar who they're pushing as a replacement for a future Hall of Famer and departing(?) top draw. Putting him with a comedy act, even one as over as Danhausen, risks making Femi seem less special. The rival school believes making moments like this with the Mayor of MSG will only push Oba's star higher in the sky... and probably enjoyed the team-up too much to even hear anyone else wringing their hands.
