Bradley Barcola transfer talks 'difficult' as PSG stands firm on Liverpool target
Bradley Barcola is a priority transfer target for Liverpool this summer, but PSG is holding out for an enormous sum of money for the French winger, who is open to the move
Liverpool and PSG are said to be a "significant" distance apart in talks regarding Bradley Barcola, with the French side holding out for a very large fee.
The Ligue 1 champion has been touted as wanting as much as $195 million (£145 million) for Barcola in some quarters, which would be around $27 million (£20 million) more than the Reds paid for Alexander Isak last summer. The addition of the Swede was a British record transfer.
According to Sky Sports, the transfer negotiations are still some way from a conclusion and are proving "difficult." That follows misguided claims earlier in the day that an agreement had been reached.
Arsenal could also complicate matters if it enters the race. The Gunners are also wary of the massive price tag, but have failed to pull off a deal for Vinicius Jr.
The Brazilian forward is staying at Real Madrid, with Mikel Arteta hoping to add more quality to his attack after wrapping up a move for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes.
Earlier in the week, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen said the Reds should avoid paying over the odds for Barcola. In fact, he suggested they should have signed Jarrod Bowen from West Ham instead.
"Barcola, he's obviously the big name on everybody's lips, and it sounds like he might be available," Owen told the Liverpool ECHO.
"It sounds like he's going to be expensive, but they're going to have to make some form of statement signing, of course. You know, it used to be Salah, and [Sadio] Mane and [Luis] Diaz.
"There's so many great wide players [at Liverpool] over the years. And it feels like there's a dearth of them.
"They probably need two. They certainly need one. So, yeah, I mean, they do probably need to invest heavily in that type of position.
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
"He seems to be one that's available, that's got the quality. And it sounds like there's no smoke without fire. It sounds like they'd be interested, but a lot will depend on the price, I guess."
Liverpool.com says: Barcola is obviously worth more than $100M in this market, but close to double that is crazy money. PSG is looking to bring in a couple of forwards, and has already signed Maghnes Akliouche, so perhaps its stance could change further down the line.
There are still a few weeks remaining in the transfer window, with the deadline on September 1. By then, two Premier League games will have been played (Newcastle and Nottingham Forest for Liverpool).
