Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is absent for the Premier League opener against Hull City at the MKM Stadium due to injury, according to ESPN journalist Rob Dawson.
The Ivory Coast international has been a key player under manager Michael Carrick, but he won’t be involved against the Tigers this afternoon after suffering a minor setback in training.
Dawson reveals that Amad picked up a ‘niggle’ in a training session earlier this week. The winger’s condition is still being assessed, but there is hope that the injury is not serious.
Amad was the regular starter on the right wing during pre-season with Bryan Mbeumo operating upfront. The 24-year-old’s absence has meant that Carrick has had to change things.
Mbeumo will start on the right wing today, with Patrick Dorgu on the opposite end. Matheus Cunha will lead the line, which he has done many times in the past for the Red Devils.
United go into today’s game as clear-cut favourites. The club faithful will be hoping the players can turn up with a quality performance and a victory to begin the league campaign.
The Red Devils have had a mixed record in the past five meetings against Hull, with just two wins. Still, the club should pick up a comfortable victory over the newly promoted outfit.
Mbeumo should be the player to watch out for. The Cameroonian bagged three goals and an assist in pre-season, and has the opportunity to start the new campaign on a positive note.
