Wes Burns and Conor Chaplin both arrived, having won promotion from the league just a few years ago with Ipswich. Meanwhile, youngsters like Christian McFarlane and Tommy Watson have signed on loan. Even outside of the players, Russell Martin is now in the hot seat, whilst James McCaron has been busy as the new sporting director. In terms of team news, Ben Nelson is out. He came off early in the last pre-season friendly against Genoa. His issue led to a lengthy stoppage in play, with the City defender severely struggling. It has now been confirmed that he has ruptured his ACL, thus leaving him out for most of the season. With league action on the horizon, this is a good chance for Martin’s side to ease into the season and continue those preparations. Interestingly, they met City early on in pre-season, though it was the Foxes who came out on top via goals from Stephy Mavididi and Will Alves. Since then, they have taken on many other sides, picking up wins against Southend and Solihull Moors. Among their new faces is Leicester’s Logan Briggs, who signed on loan. Briggs is a local lad who has impressed over the last few years for the Leicester academy. With this being the first competitive game of the season, it’s tough to know how manager Chris Hogg is looking to line up. However, he did confirm some players are struggling with illness. He said: “We’ve got one or two who are carrying a little bit of a bug, but we are hoping they will be okay for the weekend.” With this, he confirmed that there isn’t much change from last weekend. In that game, they beat Solihull Moors 4-2, with former Manchester City academy forward Matty Warhurst among the goals.
