Marcus Rashford new number confirmed as Man Utd hierarchy made clear Manchester United have announced their squad numbers for this season with Marcus Rashford taking on a historic figure Marcus Rashford will wear the No.9 shirt if he stays for the 2026/27 season, Manchester United have confirmed. The England international's future still remains uncertain though head coach Michael Carrick has regularly spoken about it and has been keen to stress that he has made a good impression upon returning. Rashford wore the No. 9 shirt for his cameo in the friendly defeat to AC Milan earlier this month which was also his first United appearance in over 18 months. The shirt numbers worn for that game were only provisional but the official numbers have now been submitted to the Premier League Rashford was the No.10 before being frozen out at Old Trafford and the No. 9 shirt became available at United after Rasmus Hojlund completed his move to Napoli. During loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona, he wore 9 and 14, respectively, with Matheus Cunha since taken on his previous number at United. Hojlund inherited the No. 9 shirt following Anthony Martial's departure from United in the summer of 2024, but he had that for just one full season. The likes of Andy Cole, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Dimitar Berbatov have all worn the No. 9 shirt for United throughout the Premier League era, with Sir Bobby Charlton amongst the legends to have carried it before that period. Reflecting on Rashford last week, Carrick said: "He's a very good player, and I think if you're going to have a career over 10 or 15 years, there's going to be times when things go in a direction and maybe a different direction. I think there are ups and downs, and that doesn't judge you as a one-off kind of judgment. "It's what happens over time, and now we're in a positive place as a group, and Marcus can offer us so much. He has done, and he can do again, so in that respect, it's quite exciting."Carrick continued: "He's our player. He arrived back with Kobbie [Mainoo], and Lisandro [Martinez] came the day after, and he's part of the group like anybody else. He came in, he's trained really well. "I've known him a long time, like I've known some of the others a long time, so I don't treat him any different to anybody else, but it's been good to have him around the group again this week. So I'm really positive with that." Rashford has been included in the squad to face Hull City on Saturday lunchtime. The 28-year-old has two years left on his £325,000 per week United deal.
