Five-time WRC event winner Meeke will compete at Rali Ceredigion in Wales from 4–6 September. The Northern Irishman will drive a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, with Noel O’Sullivan alongside him as co-driver. Meeke, 47, last competed in a European Rally Championship round no fewer than 20 years ago. He contested Rally Poland in 2006 in a Citroën C2 R2, finishing tenth overall alongside co-driver Glenn Patterson. Meeke’s aim was to contest the final two rounds of the ERC. His participation in the Welsh event, at least, has been made possible with the support of several local businesses connected to the rally. “I wanted to try to do the last two rounds of the ERC. A big thanks to all my sponsors who have helped me out again. It’s very exciting,” Meeke said, according to Motorsport.com. In Wales, Meeke will get to test himself against the leading drivers in the ERC. One of them is Finland’s Teemu Suninen, whom Meeke specifically singled out when discussing the challenge ahead. “I’m hopeful, but I don’t underestimate the challenge with guys like Teemu Suninen, who’s been rallying every weekend. But I’m excited for the challenge and a big thanks to everyone that has made it possible. Let’s see what happens.” Meeke has remained active in rallying in recent years. He competed in the Portuguese national championship for several seasons and won the title in 2024 in a Hyundai i20 N Rally2. Last year, Meeke switched to a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 and finished runner-up in the Portuguese championship. The title went to fellow WRC event winner Dani Sordo. Meeke has continued competing this season. In June, he claimed an impressive victory at the Donegal International Rally.
