West Ham United host London rivals Charlton Athletic at the London Stadium this afternoon. Despite it being so early on in the season, for some reason this game feels crucial to our automatic promotion hopes. After a bit of a reality check and more negative tactics from manager Nuno Espirito Santo, West Ham really need a win in what is one of the most winnable fixtures of the season on paper. West Ham have to change, that Burnley game showed absolutely no change from last season. It showed we have the talent and the potential to attack which is our strength, but Nuno’s tactics to just defend and protect that lead once we get it ruins us, because defending is our weakness, even more so now Disasi is gone. This game needs to signify a shift in mentality. We’re the much stronger team than them, our team probably cost 10x theirs at least, we need to prove that on the pitch. I would expect us to have too much for them if we did play defensively anyway, but this is a chance for Nuno to get both the players and fans excited because at the moment the vibe around the club isn’t a positive one. If nothing changes, if we lose or even draw the pressure on Nuno and the owners will increase significantly. This afternoon is a crucial one for West Ham United.
