West Ham United have been heavily linked with a move for Repbublic ot Ireland and AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott. After a very slow start to the summer transfer window, it seems like the signing of free agent Joel Veltman will kickstart our summer business. It looks as though the Hammers are going to make moves for a central midfielder, a left winger, and a striker. Arne Engels looks likely to be the midfielder, Disasi and Dylan Lawlor are the main targets for central defence, and Troy Parrott is the main target for the striker position. Parrott would be an excellent signing for two reasons: one, because he is a brilliant player and would do really well in the Championship, and two, it would mean Pablo no longer has to be a starter. Harsh, but the 22-year-old was poor last season, and that has continued into this pre-season. Having him in the team was acceptable in the Premier League because of his work off the ball, but in the Championship, where we’re going to be dominating most of the time, Pablo can’t play as badly as he has in claret and blue so far. This is where Parrott comes in; the former Spurs academy man has that same hard-working mentality, his pressing from the front is just as good as Pablo’s if not better, and he has an end product on top of that. I think a front two of Taty and Parrott would be incredible in the Championship. Even though they are pretty similar in terms of build and some parts of their game, I also believe they have enough differences to complement each other. Both of them will work hard for the team off the ball, but on the ball, with Taty dropping deep and Parrott running in behind, Championship teams should be frightened of the prospect of the 24-year-old joining the Hammers. The rumoured fee of Parrott is said to be around £20 million, and for that we’d be getting our money’s worth. It’s always hard to tell how a player coming from the Netherlands will adapt to English football. But he knows English football; quite controversially, he has played for both our biggest rivals, Tottenham Hotspur and Millwall, so it’s written in the stars that he’d be a success in East London. He has also played for Ipswich Town, MK Dons, and Preston North End on loan from Spurs, so he knows the EFL. He wasn’t brilliant at any of those clubs as a youngster, but since moving to the Netherlands at 21, he’s become a real goal scorer. Parrott is a player that will have Premier League interest; however, they would be unsure whether to make a move because of the League he’s playing in. A move to a top Championship side with a very high chance of promotion could be perfect for him.
