Wigan Warriors moved to the top of Super League and head coach Matt Peet offered up his verdict, stating his pleasure at how his side proved tough to break down in the second half despite struggling with ball in hand. The Warriors would win 26-12 in the end but they had led 20-0 at half-time as they took control of an opening 40 minutes that were played at a high level of intensity. “I loved the performance,” Peet admitted when speaking post-match on Sky Sports. “The first half, I thought was a proper game. We were very good to come out the other side of a few periods of ball in play.” He’d admit that the second half needed refinement, stating: “The second half we put ourselves under a little bit of pressure but I think we were better for it. “We had to defend a lot of really good shape and a lot of second phase play where they were chancing their hand a little bit and I liked our attitude apart from the one where Paddy [Mago] turned out.” Wigan Warriors’ ‘good stuff comes through imperfection’ Whilst Wigan were far from their best, they were still incredibly impressive and that led Peet to be asked about just how much more improvement is in his side. He agreed that there’s more to come, stating: “There’s a lot in us but some of the good stuff comes through the imperfection, doesn’t it? “We were pretty ugly with the ball in the second half but then some of our goal line defence desperation brings that out of you. “We can certainly be slicker but I thought we were very connected, very hard to break down against. It’s a good team.” As well as moving top of Super League, Wigan celebrated their 12th straight win in the competition, a club record. When asked what that impressive run comes down to, the Wigan boss was clear. “The players, we’ve got a great group,” he said. “It’s going to end at some point. Hopefully it’s not the next one. “We’ve got to carry on with that. I’ve got a group I love working with. I say it all the time.
