Newcastle United do not have a lot of time to do that though. The summer transfer window is already nearing its end. And the Magpies clearly have not done enough to put together a squad that will meet the fans’ expectations. Signing someone like Nkunku could go a long way in rectifying that. At the end of the day, the quality has never been in question with the Frenchman. He was the Bundesliga’s top goalscorer in the campaign before he left for Chelsea. The year before that, Nkunku was the Bundesliga Player of the Season. He has not magically lost that ability. He just needs the right circumstances to succeed. Newcastle United handed Nkunku transfer problem While Newcastle United are interested, another team monitoring Nkunku is RB Leipzig, which is where he enjoyed all those accolades in German football. Could a return be on the cards? According to Florian Plettenberg, there’s a feeling that RB Leipzig are currently ahead in the race to sign Nkunku from AC Milan this summer. There are many enquiries for Nkunku, including from Newcastle United. But RB Leipzig are already in concrete negotiations with AC Milan. They really want to bring the Frenchman back, and he is also open to a return. But there are no agreements yet. Judging from Plettenberg’s update though, it looks like RB Leipzig are the ones leading the race at this moment. And if Newcastle United want to pull this move off, they might need to move swiftly and try to get ahead of the German club somehow. Can Newcastle convince Nkunku? The first obstacle for Newcastle United will be convincing Nkunku to move to St James’ Park. There are plenty of players who have turned down that prospect in this window. Newcastle United would give him the opportunity to make it in the Premier League. Nkunku might feel he has some unfinished business in English football after his failed spell at Chelsea. Newcastle United might also be able to provide him with the opportunity to be the face of the team. That is a responsibility he has not had since leaving RB Leipzig. Would that be attractive enough for Nkunku? Or would he be more intrigued by the idea of ending up back at RB Leipzig, where he knows he can succeed?
