Wakefield Trinity head coach Daryl Powell has hailed his side’s effort in their 26-12 loss to Wigan Warriors, however, he has questioned how the officials failed to award Max Jowitt’s try in the first half. Powell claimed that it was a decision that didn’t just showcase one official making an incorrect decision but two, as Chris Kendall failed to award it on field before Liam Moore then upheld that decision. Max Jowitt looked to have grounded the ball after a break from winger Oliver Pratt, however, Chris Kendall disgareed and video referee Liam Moore judged Jowitt to have knocked on before he grounded, a decision that Powell clearly wasn’t happy with. “Well, you said to me straight after half-time that it was a try and it’s pretty obvious to me,” Powell said to Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks. “Instead of one person getting it wrong, we’ve now got two. What’s the point of it all? “It was obviously a try. I don’t get it. I don’t get it. Everybody makes mistakes, I suppose. I thought we were a little bit… on our try line. We conceded a couple of tries there that we would want to do better with. “Apart from that, I just think it’s a tough game that we’re in all the way through. We talked about their speed and if you give them loose ball and we give them two tries when we’ve got the ball.” Those tries he referenced saw Bevan French and Jai Field each race over 70 metres after collecting the ball when Wakefield put it to ground in good territory, with Powell stating: “Ultimately, that’s the difference. I don’t think there was that much else between the teams. I think we’ll be proud of our second half effort with our bench. “Emre [Guler], obviously, going off the plane yesterday, I thought that was a special effort tonight. “I just thought our boys were outstanding. There’s a couple of things that we want to be a little bit better at but we weren’t too far off tonight, so I wouldn’t be proud of that. That’ll really set us up for what we’ve got coming up.” Defeat to Wigan meant a third consecutive loss but for Powell, there’s no cause for concern. “No, not at all,” he asserted, noting: “I think today was a marker for us. Obviously, last week was the only one, really. “I think we faded away against Leeds but jeez, we had them on toast. If we can nail our game, then, what have we got to be worried about? I don’t think too much. I’m proud of the boys.
