Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has his sights on joining Juventus amid interest from Napoli, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
The Dutchman has struggled for regular minutes in the Premier League during his two seasons at the club, and he could move on in the coming days.
Corriere dello Sport report that Napoli have made an enquiry for the former Bologna man, but the 25-year-old is much keener on a move to Juventus.
The Bianconeri reportedly have an ‘excellent’ relationship with United, and it is claimed that discussions have been held over a season-long loan move.
The parties have also spoken about an obligation to buy, which would suit the Red Devils.
United may want a replacement to part ways with Zirkzee
Zirkzee has been a huge disappointment during his time in the Premier League. He has notched up only five goals from 56 appearances in the English top-flight.
The Netherlands ace has had to contend with a substitute role quite often, but he has barely impressed when offered the opportunity to start for the Red Devils.
Zirkzee has failed to cope with the league’s intensity and physicality, and United could open the door for his loan departure with an obligatory buy clause.
However, his exit could largely depend on United landing a replacement, given Benjamin Sesko is the only other specialist striker. He is just returning from a shin injury.
Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha or Marcus Rashford can also lead the line, but manager Michael Carrick may ideally want a more physically imposing centre-forward.
Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta would be an ideal acquisition, in our view. He has averaged 14 league goals in each of the previous three seasons at the Eagles.
The Frenchman could not join Milan for £30 million last winter due to a failed medical, and could be signed for less with his contract expiring at the end of the 2026/27 season.
