The hottest topic surrounding Bayern Munich going into the start of the 2025/26 season was Vincent Kompany’s paper-thin squad. The attack was left particularly short-handed, especially considering this was before Lennart Karl’s emergence as a feasible depth option. Despite the attacking trio of Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Díaz staying healthy for the vast majority of the season, many would point squad depth out as Bayern’s Achilles heel last season. Fast forward nearly one year and it appears Bayern have — somewhat — learned from their mistakes. But, after seeing the likes of PSG and Arsenal — two inevitable hurdles in Die Rekordmeister’s path to a third treble — use the transfer window to build two starting-calibre squads, many Bayern fans have been left wanting more. Unfortunately, those fans will be getting the exact opposite. According to a report from Sport Bild’s Christian Falk and Julian Agardi (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern will not make any additional transfers, even if the club offloads the likes of João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza: Bayern’s supervisory board and executive board are currently in agreement that no more players will be signed this summer, even in case of further sales. Initially, there was hope that Bayern would reinforce their squad further, but it appears as if the board is satisfied with the squad. Whether Kompany shares that sentiment is a different question. Bayern still boasts solid squad depth, and the emergence of several campus talents eager to emulate Karl’s rapid rise to stardom last season, will certainly help. Although, one can’t shake the feeling that Kompany’s squad still isn’t at the same level from top to bottom compared to Luis Enrique’s PSG or Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. The board may have solved the squad depth issue, but come next season, Bayern fans may well be discussing the quality of squad depth as their fatal flaw in the pursuit of their elusive third treble.
