Three notable omissions as Middlesbrough announce squad numbers for the new season Middlesbrough's squad numbers have been confirmed for 2026-27 Middlesbrough have confirmed their squad numbers for the 2026-27 Championship campaign, with three noticeable absentees. Alex Bangura, Micah Hamilton and Kaly Sene are all absent from the list of players to be given a squad number for the upcoming season. Sene’s omission comes as the Senegal striker closes in an exit after Boro accepted an offer from Swiss Super League side BSC Young Boys. Hamilton, meanwhile, has been absent throughout the summer and was given permission to train with other clubs in an attempt to earn a move elsewhere. Bangura’s exclusion is a little more surprising, with the left-back absent through injury for much of pre-season. With only year remaining on his Boro contract, it’s understood he’s also been told that he’s free to leave. Interestingly, however, other players expected to leave this summer, such as Seny Dieng, have been given squad numbers. Dieng moves from 1 to 21, though. Finley Munroe takes the number 15 short despite being close to a season-long loan to Blackpool before an injury caused that one to be put on hold. As for the new players, Sebastian Berhalter has been handed 6, Will Lankshear will wear 7, Myles Peart-Harris wears 14, Max Arfsten takes 17 and Kyle Joseph wears 22. Numbers 1 and 4 are left vacant, presumably for the impending arrivals of Radek Vitek and Ashley Phillips, while 3 is also unattached currently, despite our understanding being that no other left-back is expected to arrive after Arfsten. Other notable changes for the new season sees Aidan Morris take the 10 jersey, having worn 18 in his first two seasons. And having worn 23 after arriving in January, Castledine moves up to 19.
