Former collegiate swimmer Legend Storer has been arrested in Hawaii and charged with beating a 63-year-old security guard to death at a West Maui condominium complex.
Storer, 20, is from Lahaina, Hawaii. He was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and indecent exposure. He remains in custody without bail.
Maui Police Department officials say that surveillance video shows security guard Michael Dyer was working his office at a West Maui apartment complex around 1:45 am having lunch when a naked man attacked him.
“He was a great person and he was just in his office having a cheeseburger on his lunch break. And he had a wife that’s a waitress at Leilani’s and kids and his whole family lost him. It’s horrible,” a coworker told Hawaii News Now.
Storer was found wandering naked with physical abrasions around 3:30AM and was later matched to the surveillance footage of the attack and was arrested.
Storer swam one season for Concordia University Irvine, where he was a member of the school’s conference championship team in 2025. The school cut the program shortly thereafter.
Prior to that, he was a Maui Interscholastic League champion swimmer at Maui Preparatory Academy and a Hawaii LSC State Championships runner-up in the 100 yard breaststroke.
