Liverpool’s pursuit of Yankuba Minteh has taken another dramatic turn. According to Wilson Cox LFC, Liverpool have had a second bid worth around £60m rejected by Brighton in the last few hours. The report claims Brighton are holding firm on a valuation of around £75m, with the Seagulls refusing to lower their demands for the 22-year-old winger. It would mean Liverpool have now seen two bids rejected as they desperately try to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer window closes. Liverpool aren’t giving up Liverpool’s initial £50m bid was rejected by Brighton, something that has since been widely reported, including by David Ornstein and The Athletic. Now, according to Wilson Cox LFC, Liverpool have gone back with an improved offer of around £60m. And Brighton have said no again. That tells us something important. Brighton clearly don’t want to sell Minteh cheaply. Brighton want £75m The latest claim is that Brighton are looking for around £75m. If that’s accurate, Liverpool now have a decision to make. Do they increase their offer again and move closer to Brighton’s valuation? Or do they decide that £75m is simply too much for a player who is currently recovering from a serious leg injury? Minteh is expected to be out for several weeks following surgery, which makes the potential size of the investment even more interesting. Is £75m too much? This is where I’m torn. I really like Minteh as a player. He’s quick. He’s powerful. He’s direct. He’s capable of attacking defenders and he already has Premier League experience. At just 22, there is also plenty of room for improvement. But £75m is serious money. Liverpool would be paying a huge fee for a player who has scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 66 Premier League appearances. That’s potential rather than a proven world-class output. But Liverpool need another attacker And this is the problem. Liverpool know they need more options in the wide areas. Mohamed Salah has gone. Victor Muñoz has arrived, but Liverpool are still looking for further attacking reinforcements. Bradley Barcola remains a major target, while Ibrahim Mbaye has also been considered. Liverpool can’t afford to enter the new season with an attack that is short of options. That’s why Minteh is so important. The player reportedly wants Liverpool Another factor that could help the Reds is Minteh’s reported desire to move to Anfield. If the player is genuinely pushing for Liverpool, that could potentially make negotiations easier. But Brighton have a long-term contract with Minteh and therefore have no obligation to sell unless their valuation is met. That’s why Liverpool’s negotiating team have such a difficult job ahead. £60m rejected. £75m wanted. If Wilson Cox LFC’s information is correct, Liverpool have now made their position clear. £50m wasn’t enough. £60m apparently isn’t enough. Brighton want around £75m. Now the question is whether Liverpool are prepared to bridge that £15m gap. Personally, I wouldn’t be rushing to £75m. I’d be trying to structure a deal with a significant amount in add-ons. Perhaps £60m guaranteed with another £10m-£15m based on appearances, goals, trophies and Champions League success. That would protect Liverpool while giving Brighton the opportunity to receive the valuation they want. Liverpool have a decision to make The fact they’re reportedly returning with a second bid tells us they clearly like Minteh. This isn’t a player Liverpool are simply monitoring. They’re trying to sign him. But Brighton are making them pay. And with the clock ticking towards the end of the transfer window, this could become one of the biggest transfer battles of the summer. Liverpool want Yankuba Minteh. Minteh reportedly wants Liverpool. Brighton want £75m. Now we find out just how badly Liverpool want him. Source: Wilson Cox LFC Think You Know Liverpool FC?
