Shaun Maloney has given an update on the futures of Arne Engels and Alistair Johnston as interest continues to build around both Celtic players. Speaking on CelticPlayer, Maloney confirmed that nothing has changed with either player and that both remain fully involved with the squad. He said: “Nothing’s changed really. “Arne and Alistair Johnston, I know there’s been interest in the two of them over the last couple of days, but nothing’s changed. The two of them are training really well and it can be difficult as an individual, but they’ve been good. They’ve trained really hard. “I thought they were both good against Dundee. I think we could have been a lot better in the first half as a team, but no, it can be hard for these guys, but they’re training fine. We’ve seen it before at this club. “They have to act a certain way until obviously they’re not here, but the two of them have been really good.” That is a fairly clear message from Maloney, with neither player being treated any differently despite the transfer speculation around them. He was also asked whether either Engels or Johnston had indicated that they wanted to leave Celtic. He added: “They might be have with the boss, all of these things will go generally through Martin and Michael Nicholson. The two players with me, they’ve been fine. “They haven’t indicated anything apart from they’re there for selection. I think anything deeper than that, with Martin and Michael, it hasn’t been with me.” For now, both players remain available to Celtic and continue to train as normal. There may still be movement before the end of the window, but Maloney’s comments make clear there has been no change in their day-to-day involvement with the squad. With Celtic preparing for Kilmarnock this weekend, both Engels and Johnston remain part of the manager’s plans unless the transfer picture changes.
