For a while, it appeared those shenanigans were over with — until Thursday night. Over one year after the WNBA was forced to release a statement regarding sex toys being thrown onto courts at games, it happened again in Thursday's Dream vs. Sparks matchup. After a green sex toy was thrown onto the court during Atlanta's win, Angel Reese was seen quickly pointing out the fan who threw it from the bench. Front Office Sports reported Friday that the fan who threw the sex toy has been arrested and banned from WNBA and NBA events. However, the officials' whistles sounded when a green object was thrown onto the court, stopping play. Cameras then cut to Reese from the bench, with the Dream star clearly pointing to who she believed threw the sex toy from the stands. Why do fans throw sex toys at WNBA games? This is not the first trouble the WNBA has had with sex toys being thrown on courts. Throughout the 2025 season, it became an issue for the league. It's unclear why fans began throwing sex toys on the floor in the first place, outside of the attention it would bring. But once it started in 2025, it became a trend, likely appealing to copycats. There was also a cryptocurrency company called DILDO that claimed some of the throws, saying they had people throw the sex toys to drive up awareness. Those in the cryptocurrency community called the incidents light-hearted "jokes." It reached a point where players were calling for fans to stop. Sky center Elizabeth Williams said the acts were "immature." “Whoever is doing it just needs to grow up," Williams said. Sophie Cunningham also shared a social media post calling for an end to the sex-toy throwing. "Stop throwing dildos on the court," Cunningham wrote on X. "You're going to hurt one of us." After a WNBA statement condemning the behavior, multiple reported arrests were made for some of the sex-toy-throwing incidents, and the cryptocurrency company claimed other throws, the trend died down by mid-August of last season. Now, the issue appears to have returned for the WNBA after Thursday's game.
