India's scheduled tour of Bangladesh could be pushed back yet again, with the two cricket boards still discussing the dates for the six-match series. With the opening ODI currently scheduled for September 3, the uncertainty has also forced the Bangladesh Cricket Board to keep its domestic calendar flexible. India are due to play three ODIs and three T20Is during the tour, which was already moved from August 2025 to September 2026. However, the BCCI has not publicly confirmed the itinerary, while BCB president Tamim Iqbal said talks over the series are still continuing. "Both boards remain in discussion about the India series. The dates may be shifted here or there," Tamim said at a press conference in Dhaka. The uncertainty became more apparent after the BCB announced its Game Development Trophy, a competition involving Under-17, Under-19 and Under-23 players. The tournament is currently scheduled at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur from August 28 to September 9, overlapping with India's proposed tour. Tamim, however, said the domestic tournament would not stand in the way if the India series is finalised. "This tournament is being held in Mirpur but it can be shifted to the Basundhara ground in two minutes. If the India series is locked and fixed, we will schedule it accordingly," he said. INDIA TOUR STILL AWAITING CLARITY The proposed series has already had a complicated journey. It was originally meant to take place in August 2025 before being postponed by a year, after which the BCB announced a revised schedule covering three ODIs and three T20Is in Dhaka and Chattogram. The lack of a public confirmation from the BCCI has kept questions over the tour alive, particularly with the September 3 start date now approaching. Relations between the two boards also went through a difficult phase earlier this year. Tensions followed the Kolkata Knight Riders episode involving Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman and later intensified when Bangladesh declined to travel to India for the T20 World Cup. There have since been signs of a thaw following Tamim's appointment as BCB president. He travelled to India earlier this month and reportedly visited the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. BPL ALSO FACES UNCERTAINTY The BCB is simultaneously reconsidering the future of the Bangladesh Premier League. Tamim has indicated that the tournament may not be held this year as the board attempts to address financial and administrative problems. "I don't think BPL will be held this year. I don't want to organise the BPL this way," Tamim said. The BCB has suffered losses of around 40 crore Bangladeshi Taka, roughly Rs 31 crore, over the past two editions. The board is now working with franchises on outstanding payments and bank guarantees, with Tamim unwilling to rush into another season before the financial model is fixed. "If it takes six, 12 or 24 months to do it properly, I will take that time," he said. For now, the immediate priority is the India series. With September 3 still the proposed opening date, the BCB will have to keep reshuffling its calendar until the two boards settle on whether the tour will go ahead as originally planned or be moved again.
