Brown missed the majority of the second Supercars practice session at Queensland Raceway when his brand new Red Bull Mustang suffered a gearbox failure. The problem was quickly diagnosed as terminal, Triple Eight springing into action to fit a new transaxle as quickly as possible. The rush was due to a 25-minute sponsor rides session starting at 5pm local time, presenting an opportunity for valuable laps to check the replacement gearbox. “It was super fast because we had to not only do that, but put the ride seat in as well,” Triple Eight team manager Mark Dutton explained to Speedcafe. “We didn’t have a stop watch on it, but I think it was done in under an hour with the ride seats as well. “It was a cracker effort by the crew. “And it was a bonus to get it done. We’re confident we could put the transaxle in and go straight out for qualifying, but the fact you get it in for an extra session, even if it’s rides, is awesome.” According to Dutton the car ran well during the rides session. “We haven’t done a full debrief yet, but no obvious problems,” he said.
