Confidence boosted Toronto FC aim for first-ever away win vs. Dayne St. Clair’s Inter Miami
In the past three MLS seasons, Toronto FC have had their fair share of struggles. 2026 has had some wildly exciting moments, but has not been kind to the Reds either as they have only won once away from BMO Field.
On the back of a 3-3 draw vs. Philadelphia Union on Wednesday evening on the shores of Lake Ontario, TFC take their three-game unbeaten streak to Miami’s Nu Stadium this Saturday night.
Lionel Messi, Dayne St. Clair & friends
Compared to Toronto FC, Inter Miami have had a busier schedule over the past few weeks due to Leagues Cup. The Herons could only muster one victory out of the three league phase matches. That win coupled with two losses eliminated them out of the new tournament that was reformatted ahead of this year’s edition.
Before that tournament began, Miami signed Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro, formerly of FC Porto, Real Madrid and Manchester United. Club President David Beckham worked his magic to somehow stay under the MLS salary cap with that acquisition.
Miami has earned five points from their last four MLS matches. They were victorious over CF Montréal on July 25 by a scoreline of 1-0 at Stade Saputo. A week later, on August 1, they were held to a 2-2 tie at home against Columbus Crew SC. When league play resumed on August 15, the Herons were hammered 4-1 by Nashville SC. The 2022 MLS MVP, German midfielder Hany Mukhtar recorded a brace in the second half of that contest. St. Clair started for the first time since May as Miami drew Philadelphia Union 2-2 on Wednesday.
Due to that draw with Nashville, Miami sit seven points back of Nashville, who are first in the Eastern Conference.
The big news off the pitch is that Messi is heavily considering retirement after his father, Jorge, passed away at the age of 68 on Aug. 8 after a prolonged illness.
The Herons only have one player on their injury list, Argentine striker German Berterame. He was battling for the ball off a corner kick with Montréal centre-back Efrain Morales and received an elbow to the head from the defender and was knocked unconscious, suffering injuries to his nose and left shoulder.
Berterame is third in the scoring charts for Miami this season with seven goals, he also has five assists. Messi has contributed 12 goals and nine assists, while Luis Suárez has found the back of the net 10 times and added seven helpers.
Miami will be without midfielder Yannick Bright who picked up a red card in Wednesday’s draw with Philadelphia and could face further punishment after punching Cavan Sullivan.
