Final beach volleyball trials will be conducted today following a successful opening session at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) High Performance (HP) Centre beach court on Wednesday.
Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation (SIVF) President Morris Maitaki told SunSPORTS that the trials mark the first stage of the federation’s preparations for the upcoming Oceania Beach Volleyball Championship, scheduled to be held in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, in October.
The trials involve senior men’s and women’s players, as well as U20 boys and girls.
Maitaki said the Oceania championship will serve as a qualifier for the AVC Championship, with rankings also taken into consideration.
“This is also our first build-up for the Pacific Games in Tahiti next year,” he said.
Maitaki thanked the senior beach volleyball players and juniors who made the effort to attend Wednesday’s opening trial.
He said today’s final session will form part of the selection process, with the squads expected to be trimmed over the next six weeks as preparations continue.
The final trial will commence from 4pm to 6pm today at the SINIS HP Centre beach court.
