After the Jayden Higgins injury, the Houston Texans could reportedly trade for or sign a free-agent wide receiver to improve the pass-catching group before Week 1. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the injury, which could lead to an outside move for a replacement before the 2026 campaign. Rapoport continued to report on the latest developments in the Texans’ receiving group, suggesting the team could trade for a pass-catcher. He said Texans GM Nick Caserio might be willing to roll the dice:
“Could they make a trade for a receiver? Yes, they definitely could,” Rapoport reported during a Thursday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “… By the cutdown day, Nick Caserio will probably do something. He is in the handful of GMs who like to make a move. … I would say a receiver move makes sense.”
Meanwhile, the Texans drafted sixth-rounder Lewis Bond earlier this offseason, but he isn’t listed as the starter. After allowing Christian Kirk to walk in free agency, Houston hasn’t added another pass-catcher. Although Tank Dell is back, a move is possible for the Texans’ pass-catching unit.

The Ultimate Reality
Houston has enough pass-catchers: Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel to succeed this upcoming campaign. However, the Texans don’t have an established starting three after Collins. The Texans have struggled to find a long-term WR2 and hoped that Higgins would fill the gap.
Unfortunately, that will have to wait until 2027. Perhaps the Texans will target potential trade candidates, but don’t be surprised if they eye free-agent options, too.
