The outlook from within Manchester City on a rather relaxed and quiet summer transfer window so far has been revealed in a new report.
Manchester City began the summer transfer window in strong fashion, securing the signature of England international Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a club-record £116 million fee, largely to replace now-former club captain Bernardo Silva.
After Anderson, City signed talented winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City, and once it was clear James Trafford would also be leaving for Leeds United, the Blues recruited goalkeeper Geromino Rulli from Olympique Marseille as back-up to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Blues won a domestic cup double last term in Pep Guardiola’s final season at the Etihad Stadium and fell just short of Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title, whilst once again bowing out of the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid - this time at the Round of 16 stage.
Enzo Maresca has taken over the baton from Guardiola and the onus is now on the former Manchester City first-team assistant coach to lead the Blues into a new era, with the Blues having largely dominated English football in the last decade under the legendary Catalan.
Man City bosses ‘relaxed’ over transfer business
But, as a lack of transfer activity in the way of incomings begins to concern supporters online, BBC Sport’s Shamoon Hafez indicates that there is an acceptance within the Etihad Stadium that City they have not been as active they would have liked so far.
Enzo Maresca has been honest enough in recent press conferences over the inactivity from the club to close deals for targets, with Manchester City waiting for further exits before making final decisions on further acquisitions.
What could final fortnight of transfer window look like for Man City?
The final weeks of the window is also likely to bring offers for other fringe players, such as Nico Gonzalez, who could decide to move on from Manchester City for regular first-team football elsewhere - despite publicly indicating a happiness at the club.
Mateo Kovacic is expected to see out the final year of his Manchester City contract, with the Blues entering dangerous territory if they allow further exits from midfield - in addition to Rodri, Reijnders and Silva.
Rico Lewis was linked with a transfer earlier this summer off the back of a disappointing 2025/26 season, but the 21-year-old could be given a new lease of life under Maresca, whom he shares a strong relationship with from their time during City’s 2022/23 treble-winning season.
Another season-long loan is anticipated for Jack Grealish, who came on for Jeremy Doku at half-time in Sunday’s 3-0 Community Shield defeat against Arsenal, and the Englishman is also into the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
