Michael Carrick updated the media with team news for Manchester United matchday squad. ·‘Mason is touch and go for the weekend’ The Red Devils travel eastwards to the MKM Stadium to play against newly promoted Hull City on Saturday afternoon as they kick off their schedule for the 2026/27 Premier League campaign. A few physical problems persist from last season, but the guests will mostly pick from a fit pool of players. "We are working towards [trying to strengthen the squad] and making the most of the situation that we have and trying to improve things, trying to move forward. [We are] trying to make the most of the opportunities to finish the window stronger than when we went in. We're in a good way to doing that. "Karl Darlow has trained this week, he is back training, so he is in good shape. Matthias de Ligt Ligt] has been out for a long period of time, but he is training. Great to have him back. He won’t be involved, but he's in good shape and moving in a good direction, so that is a good bonus for us really. "Benjamin Sesko is back training, so that's another positive and looking forward to having him back around the ground and getting him some minutes as well. [We are also] managing Mason Mount a little bit, but he is very close, so it is touch and go for the weekend really and going into next week.” The head coach spoke more about the latest setback for Mount, who suffered a foot injury during the preseason friendly against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. He has spent over half of his three-season stint at Old Trafford on the sidelines, but Carrick continues to believe in his quality. “First of all, Mason is a top player. We have seen that so far. Pre-season, he was one of our best players in the early stages in the games that he played. I thought he was fantastic, not surprising what I have seen before, what I expect and what I know of him. "He has picked up a bit of a knock, but there are no dramas. It is nothing major. Of course, he has missed some football over recent years, and he wants to be fit and wants to be in that full rhythm and wants to stay fit, so we're doing our best to help him do that, but he is a top player, Mason. "The same as recovery, we have got to manage the squad, there are going to be injuries through the season, and we have to have a squad that is strong enough to have a really good top starting team with depth to carry us through the season. Mason will be back very, very soon. If not immediately."
