Huddersfield Town boss Martin Drury on Tom Iorpenda, transfers, injury update and Joe Taylor HUDDERSFIELD Town head coach Martin Drury says he fully expects there to be interest in young midfielder Tom Iorpenda - while reiterating his hopes that he will remain at the club in 2026-27. Iorpenda enjoyed an outstanding campaign on loan at promoted side Notts County in League Two last term and has been tipped to step up back at his parent club. But the 21-year-old's contractual situation has not gone unnoticed elsewhere, with his current deal up next summer. Derby County have been linked with a move for him. Asked about the situation regarding Iorpenda, Drury said: "Well, I think you'd be naive not to think that there'd be no interest in Tom Iorpenda. "He's a young player that has real qualities and attributes. He's a real good age. He's been at the club for four years, I think now. "He's actually been first class. Hopefully, he's here. But if he's not, and someone with interest comes from higher up, and it's something that Tom wants to do, then we know the nature of the window." On the prospect of further business before the September 1 deadline, Drury, whose side face Preston in the EFL Cup in his first competitive assignment as permanent Town head coach on Saturday, added: "I hope so. "There's one or two that I would like to do before the transfer window closes. But again, we'll be diligent in how we do that. It's not bringing in numbers. "I think we have a real good group as it is, as it stands. But if we can add one or two little bits of quality in key positions that I would like to, that is something that I would definitely welcome." Murray Wallace, Bojan Radulovic, Herbie Kane and Cam Ashia will all be missing this weekend. Drury said: "Muzza fractured his hand, so we had surgery to fix that. It's not a long issue that will keep him out for too long. Tomorrow will be too early for him. "We're hoping to have him back in amongst it by next weekend, ideally. If not, then it'll be the following week. "Bojan has been back on the grass this week. "He's trained with the group. He's probably not yet hit the metrics that we need him to hit to be involved in the game tomorrow. By next Saturday, he could be available. "Herbie had a setback within his rehab. He worked really hard to get to the point where he was at and came back and had a slight setback. That's not as bad as we first feared. We had that looked at this week and he'll not be too long. "And then Cam Ashia, it's similar, still from the injury from last season. "He came back in pre-season in a really good physical condition. I was impressed with him in the pre-season running that we did. He did some really good stuff in terms of a physical point of view, but the injury is not quite where it needed to be." Meanwhile, Drury says that, as far as he's concerned, Joe Taylor remains part of his plans, despite speculation over his future this summer. "As far as I'm concerned, absolutely. I'd not worked with Joe last year because I came in just after he left. "You hear things about Joe, about him as a player, about him as a person. I've absolutely loved working with him. "He's a bit of a rarity in football because of his background and the experiences that he's had. He's great to be around. Every day he's working, he's pushing. He's trying to do everything we're asking of him."
