Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis and the first-team offense endured a difficult joint practice against the New York Giants this week, prompting Palm Beach Post reporter Joe Schad to call for an extended look at the unit in Saturday's preseason matchup.
Miami is preparing for its second preseason game against New York, scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on NFL Network. Following the Dolphins' struggles during the joint session, Schad argued that Willis and the starters should receive significant playing time.
“I know Jeff Hafley said everyone is available to play vs. Giants on Saturday,” Schad wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “After today I hope we see Malik Willis and first-team for at least first quarter.”
The suggestion came after Miami's offense struggled throughout the practice, particularly in pass protection. Schad reported that New York consistently generated pressure against Willis and the Dolphins' offensive front as the session progressed.
“As this practice winds down in Miami Gardens the Giants continue to pressure and sack Malik Willis and Co.,” Schad wrote. “Just a really bad day for the Dolphins offense in this joint practice. Lots to work on.”

The practice also became increasingly heated between the two teams. Schad reported four separate incidents by the end of the session while offering a blunt assessment of Miami's offensive performance.
“FOURTH incident as Dolphins-Giants winds down,” Schad wrote. “What an ugly day. Poor day for Dolphins O.”
The difficult practice came after Willis provided Miami with an encouraging start to the preseason. In the Dolphins' 20-7 loss to the Washington Commanders last Friday, Willis completed four of five passes for 43 yards and posted a 102.5 passer rating. He also rushed twice for nine yards.
Head coach Jeff Hafley praised Willis after that performance, describing him as “extremely composed and very accurate” while highlighting his leadership and command of the offense.
Saturday could provide another opportunity for Willis and Miami's first-team offense to build chemistry ahead of the regular season. Hafley has indicated that everyone is available against the Giants, leaving open the possibility that the starters receive additional preseason work.
After New York's defense repeatedly disrupted Miami during the joint practice, Schad believes that work is necessary. A longer appearance against the Giants would give Willis and the Dolphins' offense an immediate opportunity to respond to one of their roughest practices of training camp.
