NBA rumors: Is Jonathan Kuminga destined for Lakers after Peyton Watson goes to Cavs?

The Cleveland Cavaliers were finally able to get their wing to play alongside their core 4, trading for Peyton Watson in a multi-team deal. They had been rumored throughout the offseason to be looking to add more help after not landing LeBron James, and Watson was the next best option available. Jonathan Kuminga was another player that the Cavs were interested in, and he's still one of the best players left on the market. Kuminga's market hasn't been that huge this offseason due to what he's asking for and what teams can actually offer. Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints was asked following the Watson trade if Kuminga's best bet would be the Los Angeles Lakers or Minnesota Timberwolves. “Yes — Those are the two biggest options at this point, along with possibly Milwaukee if they want to get back involved,” Siegel wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Those two teams make perfect sense for Kuminga. The Lakers have been the one constant team that has had interest in Kuminga this summer, but it would probably have to be a sign-and-trade with the Atlanta Hawks. Both teams were rumored to have had conversations about a deal, but they never got into the advanced stages. As far as the Timberwolves, they need another forward on the team after trading away Julius Randle and Naz Reid in the offseason. Kuminga would be a good replacement, and he'd fit in well with a team looking to play fast with LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards. The third option is for Kuminga to ultimately return to the Hawks, but they currently have a roster crunch with 17 players signed. It looks like money is the one thing that's holding back a deal for Kuminga, and he may have to take less than what he's asking for if he wants to be on a team soon.
