Exclusive:John Mousinho’s Portsmouth attacking transfer promise with Hull City’s Abu Kamara on brink of arrival and Chelsea starlet in sights Pompey are closing in on Abu Kamara and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen - with John Mousinho anticipating significant attacking surgery over the remainder of the transfer window. John Mousinho has promised multiple attacking additions to excite Pompey fans with Abu Kamara on the brink of completing his Fratton homecoming. The Blues boss believes the men he’s chasing to supplement his attack will bring the ‘out and out pace’ both he and his club’s fans want to see. Mousinho on wingers: ‘Out-and-out pace on both sides’ But Mousinho has highlighted the test of adding the profile of traditional wide men to his ranks, amid the growing popularity of inverted wingers. Pompey are set to complete the return of Kamara, with a fee in the region of £2.5m agreed with Hull City and personal terms settled with the League One title winner. Kamara is poised to be joined by Chelsea’s Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, with a season-long loan deal lined up for the 17-year-old starlet. These are the kind of additions Mousinho believes can make a different out wide in the Championship, providing the assets he and the Pompey faithful are seeking. When asked if multiple attacking signings are needed, Mousinho said: ‘I think so, especially weighing up where we are with the injury situation at the moment with wingers. ‘With the way we like to play, the profile of the full-backs we have, I think that could be complemented very nicely with the type of winger people know I’m keen for. ‘They are probably difficult to come by, but Murphs (Josh Murphy) had an unbelievable time when he first arrived at the football club. ‘He did a very good job as that profile of winger and Gus (Caballero) was very similar with his pace and power on that side. Keshi was the same before his injury. ‘I think if we have steadier full-backs complemented by those wingers, it works well. ‘We’ve been trying to get that balance of having out-and-out pace on both sides. ‘That’s having the type of wingers I’d like to see in the side - and I think Portsmouth fans would like to see in this side.’ Mousinho has highlighted his personal preference for wingers in the traditional mould, amid a growing trend of wide men operating on the opposite flank to their natural foot. That offers the opportunity for such operators to cut in off the flank and threaten goal, as opposed to going on the outside and supplying crosses. Kamara is very much in the modern vein, but Kavuma-McQueen has operated across the front line for Chelsea. Mousinho added: ‘It’s quite difficult to find them (traditional wingers) now for some reason. ‘Everyone wants to be a left winger with a right foot, or a left-footed right winger who cuts inside. I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing, but they are just difficult to find. They are quite rare. ‘We had it with Gus to a certain extent, just an out-and-out right winger who wanted to go on the outside. There’s a few out there, but they are hard to find.’
