The Minnesota Lynx were able to take care of business against the Golden State Valkyries, defeating them 77-66. It was another dominant performance from Olivia Miles, who finished the game with 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds before heading to the locker room late in the fourth with a limp.
Head coach Cheryl Reeve noted that she didn't have an update on Miles, but they were hoping that she was okay. Miles has been the engine for the Lynx all season, even when Napheesa Collier was sidelined for the first part of the year.
She continues to break records, and she did so against the Valkyries, according to ESPN's Kendra Andrews.
“Miles passed A'ja Wilson and Paige Bueckers for the third-most points by a rookie in WNBA history (696), and her 19.9 points per game puts her on pace for the third most by a rookie behind Seimone Augustus (21.9 in 2006) and Wilson (20.7 in 2018),” Andrews wrote.
“Miles also tied the mark for third-most 20-point games by a rookie and became the third rookie in league history to have multiple games with 20 points on 80% shooting. Wednesday was her sixth game with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, tying Tamika Catchings (2002) for the second most by a rookie in WNBA history, behind only Caitlin Clark (14 in 2024).”
There's no doubt that Miles is playing the best ball this season out of her rookie class, and some would say she's playing the best ball in the entire league. MVP talks are already ramping up, and it wouldn't be a surprise if she was in the race.
As of now, the Lynx are just hoping that her injury isn't anything serious and that she can return to the floor in their next game.
