Hull FC fans won’t expect to see loose forward John Asiata again this season with interim coach Andy Last sharing an injury update at Tuesday’s presser, in which he offered an update on several players. One of those was Asiata, who has not played since the Good Friday derby against Hull KR when he sustained a hamstring injury. Speaking in mid-April, then head coach John Cartwright confirmed that Asiata would be a long-term absentee, adding: “I’d say minimum 12 [weeks]. If it needs surgery then probably a bit longer.” We’re now almost 20 weeks removed from Good Friday but Last has suggested that Asiata, as well as fellow forward Brad Fash (knee), won’t be seen again in a Hull FC shirt this year. “With regards to John and Brad, it’s unlikely we’ll see them again this season,” Last said in Tuesday’s presser, shared via the Hull FC YouTube channel. Fash, who went down with an MCL injury in May, was initially listed at an eight to twelve week recovery time but infections after surgery are what will prevent him from returning again this season. “Brad, unfortunately, has suffered a couple of infections on the operation that he had. He got rid of one, had a bout of antibiotics but then unfortunately, the infection returned so he’s had a tough run returning from his knee injury. “John is obviously in long-term rehab so it’s unlikely that we’ll see them both again.” NRL lowball Super League, Hull FC’s gargantuan signing, and new title favourites – Click here to watch this week’s episode of the Serious About Rugby League Show Hull FC injury update There was positive news on fellow long-term absentee Connor Bailey (clavicle), with Last revealing: “There’s a chance with Connor Bailey. He’s not far away, hopefully next week. He just needs to tick a few final things off… He should be back available for selection next week.” That was among the only positive news though as Last confirmed that hooker Cade Cust could miss out this week against Catalans on account of his ongoing shoulder issue, with a late fitness call set to be made. That test has now seemingly been failed with the hooker not named to Catalans’ travelling squad. Speaking at his presser before that, Last explained: “Cade Cust is nursing a little bit of a shoulder, which he has been battling with for the last three or four weeks. Hopefully, he’ll pull through but the game might come a little bit too soon. “It will be a late call. We’ve got a session Thursday and we travel Friday so we’ll see how he comes through. He’s been doing it tough taking painkilling injections for an AC joint, he had a couple on Friday [for the game] and he could still feel it. “We’ve got to manage that for the rest of the season but he’s a tough kid.” There was be a recall for Tom Briscoe, who was afforded a rest last week, with Last confirming on Tuesday: “Back into consideration for selection. Lewis and Harvey did a good job in Tom’s absence. I’ve just got to make a selection, I don’t think any of the three have been poor… there’s obviously always scope to play Tom in the centres.” One reason why Briscoe may be needed in the centres is because of Zak Hardaker’s calf injury, something that looks set to rule him out for the next two games, with Last circling the round 26 game against Toulouse as the veteran’s hopeful return date. 1 Comment - Asiata should be on his way out. Great skilful player, but not on the pitch enough to warrant paying him!
