A few weeks after rejecting a reported R5 million-a-year salary offer, Pitso Mosimane and the South African Football Association (SAFA) have still not found common ground. The SAFA national executive committee (NEC) had recommended Mosimane to be appointed as Bafana Bafana. However, they did that without discussing anything with him, and the 62-year-old mentor has made his demands to SAFA known. Reportedly, Mosimane wants both fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga and analyst Musi Matlaba to be given permanent contracts. Furthermore, there are still issues relating to what will happen with those who worked closely with Broos, including goalkeeper coach Grant Johnson. At this stage, it is unclear as to what the future holds for Helman Mkhalele after serving as Broos’ assistant for five years. The association is divided on Mosimane bringing his own backroom staff and getting rid of everyone who had been part of the Bafana Bafana coaching setup. TIME RUNNING OUT FOR BAFANA BAFANA… SAFA is running against time to have a new man in charge of Bafana Bafana simply because the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on the horizon. Bafana Bafana are scheduled to take host Guinea before traveling to Eritrea for their second AFCON qualifier match in September. It is unclear whether or not these issues would have been ironed out before those two crucial matches.
