Newcastle United chief makes Matthias Jaissle claim supporters will love - but Eddie Howe might not Matthias Jaissle promised intensity at Newcastle United - and the data coming out of his first few training sessions is showing exactly that. A slick German manager, baking hot sunshine and a major squad overhaul - this certainly feels like a different Newcastle United. In many ways, it had to be. Eddie Howe arrived five years ago with vigour and vibe, adopting a relentless work rate that reflected on the pitch. Intensity was the identity. But last season, the Magpies looked tired. Howe walked with dignity a week ago - and the Toon hierarchy acted quickly to appoint an energetic successor. Matthias Jaissle has not yet set foot in Newcastle but is already hard at work, putting his youthful students through their paces ahead of the Premier League opener. There are just 16 days until Liverpool visit Tyneside. Newcastle’s ranks are depleted, with Bruno Guimaraes the latest high-profile departee. Senior figures are working tirelessly behind the scenes on reinforcements but, amid the never-ending St James’ Park storm, an unshakeable poise aims to steer the Magpies through choppy waters. Jaissle was announced on Wednesday but has been in situ at La Manga since the weekend. By all accounts, the data is through the roof. Sprinting analytics gathered from the players highlight a squad eager to impress the new man in charge. Numbers can only tell someone so much. Is three weeks enough to prepare for Liverpool? And, do not forget, the elephant in the room that is their sulking Swedish striker… “We would always love more time in football,” James Bunce, Newcastle’s performance director, tells The Gazette. “We'd always love more opportunities, more time with the players and more training sessions. But we have an amazing group of staff. “Matthias has come in with his own amazing group of staff, and the marriage of those two groups is really important to me and Ross. It's something we worked very hard on throughout the recruitment process to make sure it would be a good fit. “The early signs have been amazing. The staff integration has been excellent, everyone standing together. When we introduced Mattias to the staff, we spoke about the fact that the Liverpool game isn't moving. “We all need to be on the same path, get to know each other, understand each other, ask questions, collaborate, integrate and make sure we don't waste any moment because we've got no time to waste.” As David Hopkinson declared in midweek, Howe spearheaded Newcastle United 1.0 - Jaissle arrives with the renewed energy to continue his jaded predecessor’s work. Bunce adds: “Obviously, the fact that Matthias wasn't here doesn't mean we weren't doing anything in the weeks beforehand. “We had Eddie 100 per cent committed to planning and delivering an excellent pre-season. His effort was relentless as well. The players were already in a good place, but now there are further changes that Mattias wants to implement to help us take the next step. “What we have now is an opportunity to see Matthias deliver the technical and tactical instructions that he wants. I think we'll already see that against Valencia based on what we've seen over the last few days. That evolution and change will continue throughout the season, and across Mattias' three years here he'll continue to evolve technically and tactically.” Your next Newcastle United read: Confirmed - Matthias Jaissle announces exciting six-man backroom staff at Newcastle United
