Dion Lennox and Saquon Shugars have been battling each other for the past several months on NXT. Ever since Shugars got kicked out of DarkState, he has been wanting to get revenge on Lennox. However, there’s always been a huge problem that has stopped him from doing that. The other members of DarkState, Cutler James and Osiris Griffin, have been by Lennox’s side to beat up on him. He beat Lennox in their match at the Great American Bash, which had a fantastic promo build highlighting their issues with each other. But he lost the rematch on the August 11, 2026 episode of NXT, which ended with Griffin and James beating him down once again. On the August 18 NXT, the two had a sit-down interview with each other to determine their third match. It was decided that it would be a weaponized steel cage match next Tuesday, which is the perfect stipulation for the rubber match between two people that don’t like each other at all. Saquon Shugars Gets to Use Weapons Without Being Disqualified When he reappeared for the first time after being kicked out of DarkState, Shugars looked different. He dressed in multi-colored clothes and had a baseball bat with him, an extreme contrast to the black and white of DarkState. He attacked Griffin, James, and Lennox with it over the past few weeks. In last week’s match, Lennox tried to use it to attack him. But if it connected, he would’ve been disqualified due to the use of a weapon. In a weaponized steel cage match, the bat is legal. Other things are legal as well, like chairs, kendo sticks, and trash cans. Using weapons that would result in an instant disqualification is encouraged in this match type. This means that the match between the two men will get pretty ugly, given their feelings towards each other. Shugars doesn’t have to sneak the bat in or wait until after the match to strike. He can use it and other things to beat down Lennox without getting disqualified. Griffin and James Can’t Interfere So Easily Due to the Stipulation When one member of a faction is locked in a feud with someone, there’s no question that the other members aren’t too far behind. That’s exactly what’s been happening since DarkState went down to three members. Wherever Lennox goes, Griffin and James have been following. That has been a constant problem for Shugars, who has had to deal with the three of them instead of just Lennox. However, a weaponized steel cage match keeps the two men separate from the action. Although it is no disqualification so that they can interfere, the stipulation will make it extremely hard for Griffin and James to do so. They would get hit with weapons before they can do anything effective. That means that the majority of the match would be just Lennox and Shugars. They’ll probably still be on the outside of the cage cheering on Lennox during the match. They have the ability to interfere in the match, but doing so could cause major damage to themselves. A Weaponized Steel Cage Match is a Great Idea Whenever there is a third match between two wrestlers, the stipulation has to be something to get the fans’ attention. It has to make the match feel like it’s the biggest one in the feud. With a weaponized steel cage match, fans will get that between Lennox and Shugars. For months, they have been attacking each other with both their actions and their words. Both of them have one win over each other, and next week’s match will definitively end their feud. A weaponized steel cage match gives both of them a chance to really beat up each other with objects that would be illegal to use in a regular match, such as Shugars’ baseball bat. Their interview suggests they still do not like each other. Griffin and James also could interfere, but with the stipulation, it wouldn’t be that smart of a move. No matter who wins between them, it’ll be the final match of a months-long and action-packed feud.
